Need to find a Vendor, Product or Service? The California Public-Safety Radio Association (CPRA) is the APCO chapter that serves Southern California. This is one of the most active chapters within APCO and the home chapter of many past APCO presidents and National Executive board members. CPRA conducts its business in a professional and friendly manner with plenty of opportunities for informal and casual interaction between its members. CPRA is proud of its leadership in developing strong relationships with their Commercial membership. Commercial members have earned the status of full partners in the success of the CPRA chapter by contributing of some of their expertise, time and resources to the chapters functions. The Commercial Chair position on the CPRA Executive Committee is held by a Commercial member elected by the general CPRA membership. This person is the primary contact for matters dealing with commercial activities within the chapter. Above all else, CPRA membership provides the commercial member an economical vehicle to meet many decision makers in a comfortable setting, the opportunity to build upon ongoing relationships and keep posted on activities within the local public safety organizations. The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials - International, or APCO, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement, education and advancement of communications required for Police, Fire, Local government and other related agencies. APCO is the Federal Communications Commission approved frequency coordinator for Public Safety agencies in the United States, as well as the originator and developer of many communications standards used by Public Safety. Commercial members are given many opportunities to promote their products and services with the other (potential customers) members, including:
| Monthly Chapter Meetings | CPRA meetings are held at a different location each month in Southern California. There are no mandatory attendance requirements, but most find it rewarding to attend every possible meeting. The location, date and time of these meetings is published in the monthly newsletter. You may also contact the commercial chairman for meeting information. These meetings are held to discuss association business, recent events that may affect the membership, training meetings, FCC activities, radio frequency coordination and to promote general fellowship between members. |
The monthly meetings begin in the morning
(typically 10 AM for general meeting) and include a guest speaker or short
program presentation, a group luncheon ($20.00 per person), followed by
meetings for Telecommunications and Frequency Coordination after lunch and
ending about 3 P.M. |
All attending Commercial members are given time
for self-introductions at each meeting and a brief announcement (up to 3
minutes) of new products or services and/or the availability of literature
handouts. Handout literature can be placed on a side table for pick-up
during meeting breaks and lunch. There are three special meetings held each year that focus special attention on our commercial members: - April's "National Telecommunicator Week Awards Banquet". - September's "No-Ties BBQ" - October's "Table Top" Contact the Commercial Chair for more details on these events. |
| "Early Bird" Refreshment Sponsorship |
At most monthly meetings, commercial members may
sponsor the coffee and rolls for the early arriving members and the CPRA
Executive Committee which meets before the general meetings. All members are
invited to be present during the executive committee meetings, which
typically start at 8:00 AM. CPRA makes the arrangements for meeting
refreshments and the costs to the sponsoring Commercial member is the cost
charged by the meeting facility. However, in order to keep the costs of
sponsorships within the budgets of the smaller Commercial members, CPRA will
guarantee the cost to not exceed $250.00 upon request, paying any additional
costs from the CPRA treasury. |
In recognition of their refreshment sponsorship,
the sponsoring Commercial member is given up to approximately 15 minutes at
the end of commercial introductions to promote or demonstrate their products
or services. (Sorry, projectors or screens are not normally provided) Because of special functions in some months, there are only 10 of these popular sponsorships available each year. Commercial members can arrange for sponsorships by contacting the Commercial Chairman or any other executive committee member. |
|
| Program Presentations | There is usually a program of general interest presented at chapter meetings. The subjects vary greatly so that but no subject is overdone. These presentations are about 30 - 45 minutes long and may include handouts, graphics and other interest holding aids. Commercial presentation requests are invited, especially if they have instructional or educational content that would be of interest to a large portion of the membership. | ||
| Annual Dispatchers Banquet |
Held each year on Thursday of the second week of
April and during National Public Safety Telecommunication's week,
individuals are nominated by their agencies and winners selected by the
Operations Committee in the following categories:
Commercial members have several opportunities
to support this banquet; Sponsors are acknowledged in program and have "ads" of 1/2 page, full page, inside or back covers. |
